Topics and discussions

The focus was on key questions regarding the future of underground storage in Germany. The participants agreed that underground storage remains indispensable for German energy suppliers and will be further expanded in the coming years. However, challenges such as the lack of a storage strategy in Germany and the unclear direction of energy policy are making new investments more difficult. Nevertheless, the consensus was that considerable investment will be necessary over the next five years to cover future storage requirements.

Particular attention was paid to the further development of hydrogen storage, which is set to play a key role in Germany’s and the EU’s energy infrastructure by 2030.

Good discussions with partners

The participants also included important partner companies such as Gasunie, Uniper and SGW. UGS GmbH held constructive discussions with them before and after the seminar in order to coordinate joint projects for 2025.
