Renewable energy
In order for renewable energy to be stored, some of it must be converted to hydrogen. Large quantities of hydrogen can then be stored underground as an energy source.
Several requirements are placed on the geological formations for the storage of hydrogen. The most important requirements relate to the technical leakproofness of the storage formation, which is tested several times in the course of storage tank production, and to the access well to the selected storage facility. This includes all elements installed in the borehole and their functions (completion).
Over the past five years, UGS GmbH has actively pursued the development of hydrogen projects on the German and international markets.
In co-operation with its partners, UGS GmbH is overseeing several hydrogen storage projects.
We offer our customers:
- Investigations into the possible construction of underground hydrogen storage facilities
- Examination of the necessary conversion requirements for the conversion of existing systems
- Feasibility studies for projects already planned
- Planning and development of above-ground and underground hydrogen projects
- Support for the necessary research
- Geological investigations
