PCL 5

PCL5 – Planning of Cavern Leaching – is an interactive software for the 3D simulation of transient salt dissolution processes in salt caverns during leaching operation (including leach and fill/SMUG), liquid product storage operations, and the flooding of already emptied caverns with fresh water or under-saturated brine with a cavern development around a vertical axis. The import of an initial configuration determined with sonar is possible for several common file formats. During the calculations, the development of the cavern contour is displayed on the monitor in real time.

PCL 5 can take into account depth-related/varying salt properties (dipping salt layers) as well as anisotropic salt leaching behavior within those layers.

Pressure loss calculations for vertical and S-shape wells can be carried out as required. The required thermo-physical material properties are determined by the program as a function of pressure and temperature.

PCL is characterised by its high computing speed. This enables the interactive adjustment of brine parameters and thus an immediate evaluation of the calculation results. By importing data from practical brine operation, a history match is possible. Based on this, the defined boundary conditions for the subsequent simulation can be further refined.

The programme was developed primarily as a tool for experienced leaching engineers but can be used for both planning (edit mode) and visualisation (view mode without simulation option) due to the various software modes. PCL is available in German and English language and includes an user manual and dynamic help.
